2012's French Anti-Semitism

Nadene Goldfoot
Things were promised to get better for Jews in France, but it's not happening.  614 anti-Semitic acts were documented last year.  There were 389 acts in 2011.  That's an increase of 58%.  Those Jews that left for Israel already left for this reason.  I realize that if you own your own home or business or both and have a large family in France, it's difficult to make aliyah.  Then again, many people are afraid to go to Israel where people can bee looked upon as being targets for more killers.

These attacks where victims were accosted physically or verbally on the street increased 82% from 177 cases to 315.  One fourth of the 96 physical assaults involved a weapon.  This certainly is damaging the image of France., and Richard Prasquier, head of the CRIF Jewish representative group, thinks so, too.

He said that anti-Semitic acts have exploded in the past 13 years.  Jews must be protects when they study, gather together or pray.  It's that bad.

We remember the Toulouse shooting.  Two peaks of anti-Semitic attacks happened following that episode.  90 acts happened within 10 days.  A kosher supermarket was bombed on October 6, 2012 in Sarcelles.  Two people were lightly wounded.  28 acts were recorded in the next 8 days afterwards.

I notice this happening on Law and Order, our American TV program.  A terrible crime seems to instigate copy-cat behavior.  Too bad the French police  were not prepared to deal with it.
